3D is definitely going to be a much bigger player tomorrow. The format has taken to the fascination of everyone. The TV makers as well as leading broadcasters’ simple swear by the format and think that in the long run, 3D TV sets will reach every single household. This is probably the reason behind the fact that the companies are producing 3D TV sets on a large scale in spite of the fact that they are ultra expensive and the general population won’t be able to purchase them. Content in 3D is another issue for there is definitely not enough of it around. The recent times have for sure seen tremendous films catering diverse audiences of various tastes and age groups.
There was the mega phenomenon Avatar, then there was the children’s Despicable Me and then there was the popular Horror franchisee Saw 3D. All the films have done great business which means that the audience for 3D is large but then to tap them is the task that the companies are finding to be difficult. HD is by far the leading format today which is doing great business and fast becoming the norm of watching TV.
People simply swear by the brilliant quality that a HD TV offers to them. The 3D TV sets are much more expensive when compared with the reasonably buyable HD TV sets. TV giant Toshiba, unveiled their 12” and 20” 3D Regza GL1 series in Japan which was received with much speculation. The 3D TV set showed an impressive picture quality minus the use of 3D glasses. But then comparing the content clarity, it was much poor when compared with the traditional active shutter 3D TV sets. Add to this the fact that the resolution was also poorer and the price was heftier then that of HD TV sets. Japan in its bid for world cup 2022 went on to state that they will show all the matches in 3D and that too live across stadiums all over the world. In the mean while, Nintendo’s impressive 3DS handheld gaming device, Apple’s iPad 2, iBlackBerry’s PlayBook are just some of the eagerly awaited happenings of this year 2011.
